General Order 11 was a Union Army order issued to force citizens in rural Missouri counties from their homes. Some of the residents who could prove Union loyalty were allowed to stay in the area but still had to leave their farms and give up their crops. It was thought the farmers were supporting the Confederate Rebels with grain and supplies.

Skirmishes were fought between Union and Confederate forces to maintain control of the mill and cabins. Many Mills were burned to the ground during the Civil War.
